Abba Kyari’s trial has begun

 



On Monday the 16th of July, 2022: the National Drug Law Emforcement Agency (NDLEA) began its case charges on Abba Kyari the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police at the Federal High Court in Abuja before Justice Emeka Nwite. 

The agency brought forth its first witness whose name is Patricia Afolabi to testify who is a Commander of Narcotics (Forensic unit). She told the court she was given a transparent evidence pack which contained dispensing packs each from the forensic liaison officer in person of Abubakar Aliyu of NDLEA on the 7th of Febuary, 2022 to carry out forensic analysis on the package. This is her job description. 

After the analysis, Afolabi said the labeled drug exhibit labeled A-X: 21 contained cocaine while H-G were negative. She later packaged the exhibits in a large envelope and addressed them to the O.C NDLEA in Abuja.

Afolabi who has over 30 years experience on the job was asked by the accused lawyer: Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN) if the suspect in a drug deal has to be present before analysis is conducted and she answered negative. She also said she was not present when the drugs were recovered but was only present when the NDLEA received it. 

The court has adjourned the matter to Tuesday in order to enable counsel to the other defendants to cross-examine the witness the NDLEA brought forward in person of Patricia Afolabi.
