Trump Reveals ‘Productive’ Phone Call With China’s President Xi

US President Donald Trump announced a “very productive” phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping on September 19, 2025, covering critical issues like trade, fentanyl, the Russia-Ukraine war, and the TikTok deal. Trump shared on Truth Social that they made progress and agreed to meet at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in South Korea on October 31, 2025, with plans for Trump to visit China in early 2026 and Xi to visit the US later.

China’s Xinhua described the call as “pragmatic and constructive,” noting Xi’s call for a fair business environment for Chinese firms like TikTok’s parent, ByteDance. The conversation, the second since Trump’s January 2025 return to the White House, aims to stabilize US-China relations amid tensions over tariffs and security. While unresolved issues persist, including semiconductor export controls and TikTok’s ownership, the dialogue marks a step toward easing superpower frictions. Observers anticipate the APEC Summit could yield further clarity on these complex matters.
