Renowned UK Broadcaster John Stapleton Dies at 79

 


Veteran journalist and broadcaster John Stapleton has died at the age of 79. His agent, Jack Jill, confirmed that he passed away peacefully in hospital, with complications from Parkinson’s disease and pneumonia. His son Nick and daughter-in-law Lisa were by his side throughout.


Stapleton enjoyed a distinguished career across both ITV and the BBC. He was widely recognised for his work on ITV’s TV-am, GMTV, and Daybreak, as well as his time presenting Nationwide and co-hosting Watchdog for the BBC.

In 2003, he won the Royal Television Society’s News Presenter of the Year award, cementing his place as one of the most respected names in British broadcasting.


Stapleton was married to the late presenter Lynn Faulds Wood, with whom he co-hosted Watchdog between 1985 and 1993. His passing marks the end of an era in UK journalism.
