PSG boss Luis Enrique faces surgery after nasty cycling injury

Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique will undergo surgery after fracturing his collarbone in a cycling accident on Friday. The 55 year old Spaniard was treated by emergency services before the club confirmed he would need an operation. PSG released a statement expressing full support for their coach and wishing him a quick recovery, while also promising to provide further updates on his situation in due course.

Luis Enrique has had a huge impact since joining PSG in 2023. In just over a year he has guided the French giants to two Ligue 1 titles, two French Cups, and their first ever Champions League crown last season. He also led the team to the FIFA Club World Cup final in July, further cementing his reputation as one of Europe’s leading coaches. Most recently, he oversaw PSG’s victory in the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham and a 6–3 Ligue 1 win over Toulouse on August 30, where Portuguese midfielder Joao Neves scored a hat trick. PSG are currently in strong form, winning all three of their opening league games, and will now hope their coach recovers swiftly to continue building on their successful start to the campaign.

PSG return to domestic competition on September 14 against Lens, before beginning their Champions League title defence against Atalanta just three days later. These fixtures mark a crucial period for the Parisians, who are looking to maintain their dominance in France while asserting themselves once more on the European stage. The news of Luis Enrique’s accident comes at an important moment, but PSG officials remain confident that the team’s momentum will not be disrupted.

The manager was last on the sidelines in their 6–3 win over Toulouse, showing no signs of problems before the accident. His tactical leadership has been central to the club’s resurgence, with players flourishing under his guidance and the squad showing great attacking sharpness. While Enrique undergoes surgery and recovers, his staff will be expected to oversee training and match preparations.

The situation has drawn support from PSG fans and the wider football world, many of whom have sent well wishes for his health. With such a demanding schedule ahead, the club will be monitoring his recovery closely. While his injury represents a personal setback, PSG remain fully focused on continuing their winning form and defending their hard won titles under his long term leadership.
