In a statement, MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler apologised, calling Dowd’s remarks “inappropriate, insensitive, and unacceptable.” She stressed that the network remains committed to responsible commentary, especially during moments of national grief and heightened tensions.

The firing has sparked debate across media and political circles, with critics accusing MSNBC of silencing honest analysis, while others argued that Dowd’s comments crossed an ethical line.
