(In Uganda) Tooro Marks 30 Years of King Oyo’s Reign


Tooro Kingdom is celebrating the 30th coronation anniversary of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who became the world’s youngest monarch in 1995 at just three years old.


The Pearl Empango ceremony at Karuziika Palace highlights three decades of King Oyo’s reign, celebrated for cultural preservation, unity, and visionary leadership. Queen Best Kemigisa and members of the royal family joined in the festivities.

The event featured traditional rituals such as the beating of the royal drum, blessings of artifacts, and colorful cultural performances that showcased the rich heritage of the Batooro people.


This year’s theme, “Visionary Leadership,” underscores King Oyo’s role in promoting education, social development, and cultural pride throughout his reign. Leaders, dignitaries, and citizens have extended tributes, reaffirming the Tooro Kingdom’s enduring influence in Uganda’s cultural and national identity.
