The story, set against the backdrop of the 1897 British invasion of the Benin Kingdom, follows a young orphan girl, Osamede—played by Ivie Okujaye Egboh—who discovers she has supernatural powers as the chosen protector of the sacred Aruosa stone.
Osamede had its world premiere on May 17 at the 2025 Cannes Film Market in Pavillon Afriques, screening alongside My Father’s Shadow by Akinola Davies Jr., the first Nigerian film to enter the official Cannes selection.
