The government claims Sujimoto defrauded the state of N5.7 billion, funds allocated for the construction of 22 Smart Green Schools across Enugu. According to officials, the developer received 50% of the contract sum but abandoned the projects, leaving most schools incomplete.

The Smart Green Schools initiative was intended to be finished within six months, ready for the September 2025 academic session. Authorities now say the failure has dealt a blow to the state’s education sector, as thousands of children were expected to benefit from the facilities.

The allegations further compound Sujimoto’s mounting legal troubles as investigations into his financial dealings continue.
