(In Nigeria) Chisco CEO in Spotlight After Femi Gbajabiamila’s Visit Amid Fuel Tax Controversy

Chisco is drawing attention in Nigeria after reports emerged that Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, paid a visit to the transport company’s CEO at his Ikoyi residence.

The visit comes just days after the Federal Government announced a new 5% fuel tax, reigniting public debate and drawing connections to an earlier exposé by investigative journalist David Hundeyin. In that report, Hundeyin alleged that government-linked campaigns had used social media influencers to promote acceptance of the fuel tax among citizens.

Chisco itself has recently been linked to influencer sponsorship. Weeks ago, the company funded an all-expense paid trip to Ghana for popular X personality Ruth and others. During her stay, Ruth focused on comparing living conditions between Ghana and Nigeria, repeatedly highlighting that the conversion of a liter of fuel from Ghana’s cedi to the naira equates to about ₦2,000.

Gbajabiamila’s visit, coming against this backdrop, has fueled widespread speculation over the intersection of business, politics, and public messaging around Nigeria’s new fuel tax policy.
