(In Nigeria) Boko Haram Attack in Borno Leaves 63 Dead, Sparks Global Outcry

Boko Haram militants launched a brutal assault on Darul Jamal in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State on Friday, September 5, 2025, killing at least 58 civilians and five soldiers. The late-night attack saw homes destroyed and families forced to flee, devastating villages where resettled families had only recently returned from displacement camps.

The killings have reignited fears across Borno, with survivors recounting the trauma of yet another wave of violence. Governor Babagana Zulum condemned the attack, urging residents not to abandon their communities despite the devastation.

International organisations, including the United Nations, have also denounced the massacre, calling for stronger measures to safeguard civilians and hold perpetrators accountable.

The assault highlights the ongoing fragility in the region, where communities attempting to rebuild their lives remain at risk from insurgent violence that has plagued northeastern Nigeria for more than a decade.
