Ghanaian MP Collins Dauda Criticised for Saying Akwatia Roads Should Depend on NDC Victory

Collins Dauda, the Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, has sparked widespread outrage in Ghana following his comments linking regional development to political allegiance. Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, Dauda suggested that if he were President John Mahama, he would withhold road repairs in the Akwatia constituency if its residents did not vote for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate in the recent by-election.

Despite the NDC’s candidate, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, winning the Akwatia by-election, Dauda’s remarks have drawn sharp criticism from netizens, who condemned the notion that development should be contingent on political loyalty. The controversy has ignited debates across social media, with many calling out the MP for his divisive statement.
