Fermin Lopez has dismissed claims of a falling out with Barcelona teammate Gavi after weeks of speculation surrounding their relationship. Reports in Spain suggested the two had clashed off the pitch, with some even alleging Gavi asked the club to consider selling Fermin. A cryptic social media post from Fermin only added fuel to the rumours, though it was quickly deleted.
Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, the 22 year old insisted the talk of tension was false. He explained that he has been close to Gavi since childhood, describing him as more of a brother than just a teammate. “Gavi has been my friend since I was 12,” Fermin said. “Since I arrived at La Masia, we’ve shared a lot. People always speculate, this won’t change, but he’s still my friend and nothing more needs to be said.”

The midfielder’s statement aims to settle questions about Barcelona’s dressing room harmony as the club prepares for a demanding season. Both Fermin and Gavi are currently away on international duty with Spain and are expected to link up again at Barcelona ahead of their La Liga clash with Valencia later this month.
Alongside clearing the air about Gavi, Fermin Lopez also opened up about his decision to reject a move to the Premier League. Chelsea reportedly submitted a £37 million bid during the summer transfer window as they looked to add the Spanish midfielder to their squad.
Despite the significant offer and the appeal of playing in England, Fermin made it clear that leaving Barcelona was never really in his plans. He said his dream has always been to succeed with the club he joined at the age of 12, and he felt strongly about staying to prove himself at the Camp Nou. “It’s always a compliment when there is interest from other clubs,” he said. “But the truth is, my priority has always been to be at Barça. I never doubted staying here. I want to succeed and help the club.”
His comments reflect a determination to earn a lasting place in the Barcelona first team rather than seek opportunities elsewhere. With the Catalan side continuing to rebuild under young talent, Fermin’s loyalty is seen as a positive sign for the club’s future. Barcelona fans will now be eager to see him deliver on that ambition in the upcoming fixtures.
