Donald Trump's second UK state visit: Here's what we know

Donald Trump arrived in the UK on Tuesday for his second state visit, an event described as historic and unprecedented. He was welcomed at Stansted Airport by Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper and the US Ambassador Warren Stephens before spending the night at Winfield House, the ambassador’s residence in London. The president and First Lady Melania Trump will remain in the UK until Thursday night, staying at Windsor Castle with King Charles and Queen Camilla.

On Wednesday, the Trumps will be formally welcomed at Windsor by the Prince and Princess of Wales, before meeting the King and Queen. The schedule includes a royal salute at Windsor and the Tower of London, lunch with members of the Royal Family, and a wreath laying at Queen Elizabeth II’s tomb in St George’s Chapel. A joint UK and US military flypast featuring the Red Arrows and F-35 jets is also planned. In the evening, a traditional state banquet will be hosted at Windsor Castle, where both King Charles and the US president will deliver speeches.

Trump’s itinerary continues on Thursday with a visit to the prime minister’s country house, Chequers, for a meeting with Sir Keir Starmer. The leaders are expected to view Winston Churchill’s archives before holding a press conference. Meanwhile, Melania Trump will remain at Windsor Castle for engagements including a tour of the Royal Library, Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House, and a meeting with Chief Scout Dwayne Fields alongside the Princess of Wales. She will later rejoin the president at Chequers before the couple depart for the United States.

The visit is accompanied by significant security measures. Trump arrived on Air Force One and is travelling with his presidential limousine, known as “The Beast”, alongside a motorcade and helicopters including Marine One. His delegation includes senior officials such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

The trip has also sparked controversy. Four people were arrested after projecting images of Trump and Jeffrey Epstein onto Windsor Castle. Demonstrations led by the Stop Trump Coalition are planned in London, while opposition politicians such as Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey are boycotting the state banquet.
