Utah Governor Spencer Cox has confirmed that 22-year-old Tyler Robinson has been arrested as the prime suspect in the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Cox said Robinson’s family played a key role in turning him in, with his father reportedly telling authorities that Robinson had confessed.

Investigators revealed that Robinson had grown “more political” in recent years and expressed dislike for Kirk. A rifle believed to be the murder weapon was recovered wrapped in a towel, with several bullet casings found bearing disturbing inscriptions. Among them were “Hey fascist! Catch!”, “o bella ciao, bella ciao,” and “if you read this you are gay lmao.”
Cox, visibly emotional, said he had been “as angry as I have ever been, as sad as I have ever been” over the past two days, but urged young people to reject rage and build a culture of dialogue. “There is one person responsible for what happened here and that person is now in custody,” he stressed.
FBI Director Kash Patel praised the speed of the investigation, calling the arrest “historic progress in 33 hours,” and thanked both law enforcement and Robinson’s family for their cooperation.
Sheriff Mike Smith described the case as “vast and complicated” but highlighted the overwhelming public support. Officials say Robinson will soon face formal charges.
