Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni Proposes Inclusive Committee to Resolve Decades-Old Cattle Compensation Disputes in Lango

In a significant move to address decades-long disputes over cattle compensation in Uganda’s Lango sub-region, President Yoweri Museveni has put forward a plan to establish a select committee dedicated to resolving these issues. Speaking at a gathering with local leaders at Lango College Grounds, Museveni emphasized the need for a structured approach to tackle the persistent claims, which have caused tension and frustration among communities for years.

The proposed committee would bring together a diverse group of representatives, including elders, youth, and women, to work in close collaboration with the Ministry of Justice. This inclusive framework aims to ensure that all voices are heard and that the process reflects the needs and perspectives of the Lango community. Museveni highlighted that the initiative is designed to promote fairness, uphold transparency, and expedite the settlement of claims, addressing grievances that have lingered unresolved for decades due to bureaucratic delays and competing interests.

By fostering dialogue and cooperation between local stakeholders and government institutions, the initiative seeks to deliver justice and restore trust in the region. The proposal has sparked significant interest among residents, who see it as a potential turning point in resolving one of the sub-region’s most enduring challenges.
