Nigerian captain Ajibade agrees move to Paris Saint-Germain

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade is set to join French Division 1 Féminine giants Paris Saint-Germain after leaving Atletico Madrid in June. The 24-year-old winger, a free agent since the expiration of her contract with the Spanish club, had attracted interest from several teams, including clubs in the United States’ NWSL. However, PSG have now secured her signature, adding her to a squad that already features fellow Nigerian international Jennifer Echegini.

Ajibade’s move marks the next chapter in a career that has seen her become one of Africa’s most recognisable female football stars. She joined Atletico Madrid in 2021 and played a key role for both club and country over the past three years. At PSG, she is expected to bring pace, creativity, and goal-scoring ability to their attack as the club continues its push for domestic dominance and UEFA Women’s Champions League success.

Ajibade heads to France on the back of a stellar international campaign, having captained Nigeria to their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco last month. She was a standout performer throughout the tournament, scoring crucial goals and leading by example, which earned her the prestigious Player of the Tournament award. Her leadership and technical skill have made her a fan favourite and a key figure in African women’s football.

The winger’s arrival at PSG is expected to boost the team’s attacking depth, with her versatility allowing her to operate on either flank or in a more central attacking role. Her combination of speed, dribbling, and finishing will complement PSG’s already talented squad as they compete with Lyon for top honours in France and aim for European glory.

With this move, Ajibade joins an elite group of Nigerian players who have played for top European women’s clubs. The transfer also strengthens PSG’s Nigerian connection, as she will play alongside Echegini, another rising star in the Super Falcons. Fans are now eager to see how the pair will link up in Paris and whether Ajibade can replicate her national team success on the European stage.
