Man Utd fan sets up GoFundMe to help with huge summer bid

In a light-hearted yet ambitious move, a Manchester United fan has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for the club’s reported pursuit of Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba. According to the Daily Mail, the fan – known only as Ian M  is aiming to collect £120 million to help the Red Devils secure the highly rated 20-year-old. With Brighton not keen on selling and the asking price steep, this gesture is being seen more as a humorous show of support than a serious funding attempt. The description of the appeal humorously reads: “We need this to happen” five times in a row.

The odds of this campaign making any real impact are virtually nonexistent, especially considering the most successful GoFundMe in history raised just under £34 million. Nevertheless, it has caught attention online for its cheeky tone and over-the-top ambition. The campaign had raised £5 at the time of reporting.

While Ian’s campaign may be more of a fan stunt than a realistic funding solution, it reflects the frustration and anticipation among Manchester United fans this transfer window. The club is reportedly interested in Carlos Baleba, who has impressed at Brighton, but the deal faces complications. Brighton is unwilling to sell the midfielder, and the price tag being discussed would require a significant investment   something the fan apparently hopes to assist with, even if only symbolically.

United have already made a few key signings this summer, bringing in Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and youngster Diego Leon. But the midfield remains a concern, especially as manager Ruben Amorim continues to reshape the squad. Despite the GoFundMe campaign being unlikely to affect the negotiations, it adds a quirky twist to a transfer saga that could still unfold before the window closes. Fans will now be watching both the market and the GoFundMe tally   just in case.
