Liverpool Eye Marc Guehi and Alexander Isak Deals to Boost Squad

Liverpool are intensifying efforts to sign Marc Guehi and Alexander Isak as part of a major end-of-window transfer push. The Reds have faced defensive struggles in the opening weeks of the season, prompting urgency in securing reinforcements. Marc Guehi, Crystal Palace’s England international, has been Liverpool’s primary defensive target, seen as the ideal partner for Virgil van Dijk and a long-term replacement for Ibrahima Konate.

Liverpool initially attempted to negotiate a lower fee, aiming for around £30 million, but Palace remain firm with a valuation of £40–45 million, given Guehi’s contract running until 2026. Delaying the deal risks attracting competition from other European clubs, and Liverpool are increasingly convinced that paying a premium is worth it to address immediate defensive concerns. The club views Guehi’s combination of athleticism, aggression, and composure on the ball as perfectly suited to their tactical system under Arne Slot and the current Anfield reset.

In addition to Guehi, Liverpool are pursuing striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle, with an initial bid of around £130 million, though Newcastle value the player closer to £150 million. Securing both transfers would add substantially to Liverpool’s already significant summer expenditure, which has seen signings including Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and Giovanni Leoni.

If both deals go through, Liverpool’s spending spree would rank among the most ambitious in modern football history. The club hopes that addressing defensive vulnerabilities and bolstering their attack with Isak will strengthen their squad for the remainder of the season. The window’s closing days will be crucial as Liverpool negotiate fees and finalize contracts, with fans eagerly awaiting confirmation of their marquee signings. The urgency reflects not just the need to resolve immediate tactical gaps but also to ensure long-term stability in key positions as the team competes at the highest level in domestic and European competitions.
