Alexander Isak has rejoined Newcastle United’s training camp after causing a stir by missing the club’s pre-season tour of Asia. Instead, the Swedish international trained privately at the facility of his former club, Real Sociedad, citing a thigh injury. However, the timing of his absence raised suspicions, as it closely followed strong interest from Liverpool, who have made the striker a top transfer target this summer. Newcastle turned down a £110 million offer from the Merseyside club, with their valuation firmly set at £150 million. Isak’s decision to skip team activities caught manager Eddie Howe by surprise, with reports claiming he only learned of the striker’s location through the media. Isak returned to the club’s base on Monday, becoming the only player present while the rest of the squad were granted time off following their overseas tour. Tensions are now high as key talks between Isak and Howe are expected this week.
According to Sky Sports, Alexander Isak is now preparing for direct talks with Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, where he is expected to express a clear desire to join Liverpool. The striker reportedly favours a move to Anfield under new head coach Arne Slot, and a second bid from Liverpool is anticipated within the week. Newcastle, though firm in their valuation, are said to be quietly preparing for a possible exit. The club has identified RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko as a potential replacement should Isak depart before the transfer window closes. As of now, Isak is the only player back at the club’s training base, as the rest of the squad is on leave following their pre-season tour. With the Premier League season fast approaching and a clash with Liverpool scheduled for August 25 Newcastle may have to make a quick decision. The next few days are expected to be pivotal in shaping both Isak’s future and Newcastle’s attacking plans.
