(In US) White House Orders Review of Eight Smithsonian Museums Ahead of US 250th Anniversary

The Smithsonian Institution is making waves in the United States following a White House letter requesting a “comprehensive internal review” of eight of its museums. The directive, aimed at aligning the institution’s content with the Trump Administration’s cultural priorities, comes as the nation prepares for its 250th Fourth of July celebration in 2026.

The review targets key museums, including the National Museum of American History and the National Museum of African American History and Culture, to ensure their exhibits reflect “American exceptionalism” and remove perceived “divisive or partisan narratives.” The Smithsonian, encompassing 21 museums, 14 education and research centers, and the National Zoo, faces scrutiny as part of this broader initiative to shape the presentation of American history.
