(In the U.S) Syrian Man Charged Over Alleged Assaults at Epping’s Bell Hotel


Police in Epping, Essex, have arrested 32-year-old Syrian national Mohammed Sharwarq on multiple charges, including sexual assault of a male, common assault, and assault by beating. The alleged offences occurred at the Bell Hotel between 25 July and 12 August 2025.

Sharwarq, remanded in custody, is appearing before Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court amid weeks of protests outside the premises. The incident has heightened community tensions, with Epping Forest MP Neil Hudson warning that demonstrations over the hotel “risk boiling over.” The case has drawn nationwide attention due to its seriousness and the hotel’s controversial history.
