(In South Africa) Luke Baartman Secures Free Agent Status, Set to Join Kaizer Chiefs

Nineteen-year-old midfielder Luke Baartman has officially been declared a free agent by the PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber, clearing the way for his move to Kaizer Chiefs. The ruling comes after weeks of uncertainty surrounding the young player’s status, following the relegation of his former club, Cape Town Spurs.

Baartman’s case was under review as Spurs suffered consecutive demotions—first from the DStv Premiership and later from the Motsepe Foundation Championship—ultimately dropping into the amateur ABC Motsepe League. The DRC’s decision in his favour has now freed him to continue his professional career at the highest level.

For Kaizer Chiefs, the ruling provides a timely boost as the club looks to strengthen its squad with young talent. Baartman’s versatility in midfield and promising potential have made him a sought-after prospect, and his move to Amakhosi is expected to mark the next big step in his football journey.
