Nigerian music executive Ubi Franklin is making headlines in Nigeria after firmly denying accusations of stealing a luxury wristwatch at Afrobeats star Davido’s high-profile wedding in Miami over the weekend of August 10-11, 2025. The allegations, which surfaced on social media on Wednesday, August 13, stemmed from a blog post claiming Franklin took a watch belonging to Davido. The rumor gained traction when Davido’s brother, Adewale Adeleke, reacted with a laugh emoji on the post, seemingly fueling speculation.

In a detailed statement on his X account, Franklin dismissed the claims as “completely false and misleading.” He explained that a man named Benny approached him in Miami, offering to sell a wristwatch. After reviewing the item and questioning its ownership, Franklin declined to purchase it to avoid potential issues. He further clarified that during the wedding’s church service, Benny’s brother delivered another watch, which Franklin had purchased and paid for in full. Franklin noted he was in possession of both watches during the event’s chaos and wore the one he bought. He left Miami immediately after the wedding to prepare for his sister’s funeral and was contacted by Benny about the other watch while en route.“
I am not a thief. I have never stolen from anyone in my life,” Franklin stated, adding that Benny had already debunked the theft claims earlier that day. Franklin emphasized that this was a sensitive time for his family and declared the statement his final word on the matter.
