(In Nigeria) Pastor Fatoyinbo Faces Backlash Over Controversial Remarks on Apostle Babalola’s Legacy

Nigerian clergyman Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo has sparked widespread controversy following comments about the late Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola, founder of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC). Fatoyinbo allegedly described Babalola as having “died poor” and questioned the whereabouts of his children, prompting sharp criticism from the CAC and Nigerians online.

In a statement, the CAC condemned Fatoyinbo’s remarks as insensitive, arguing that equating spiritual success with material wealth promotes greed, corruption, and a misguided interpretation of biblical teachings. The church emphasized that Christian ministry should be measured by spiritual impact, humility, and faithful service, not financial prosperity. They warned that such statements could mislead believers into prioritizing riches over righteousness.

The controversy has ignited heated online debates, with many Nigerians defending Babalola’s legacy of selflessness and devotion to God’s work. Social media posts on X reflect strong support for Babalola, rejecting the notion that poverty undermines a divine calling. The backlash continues to fuel discussions about the values of ministry in Nigeria’s religious landscape.
