President William Ruto, speaking at the opening of the 9th Devolution Conference in Homa Bay, announced an increase in the counties’ equitable share to KSh 415 billion for the 2024/2025 fiscal year — a boost of KSh 30 billion.

Alongside the allocation, the government has cleared all pending county arrears, marking the first time in years that counties begin a financial year debt-free. The move is expected to strengthen BETA Devolution’s agenda, enhancing service delivery in rural hospitals, schools, and road projects.

Over the past 12 years, counties have received more than KSh 4 trillion, fuelling grassroots development.
