(In Kenya) Gloria Orwoba Barred from Senate Despite Court Orders Reinstating Her

Gloria Orwoba was blocked from entering the Senate even after presenting court orders reinstating her as a nominated senator. A video captured her clashing with security officers as she insisted she had every legal right to resume her duties.

The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal had nullified her expulsion from UDA, citing flawed procedures. However, Senate security still denied her access.

The standoff escalated after Consolata Wakwabubi was sworn in as Orwoba’s replacement, despite the tribunal’s ruling that her expulsion was unlawful.

Orwoba argued that Wakwabubi’s presence in the Senate was illegitimate and accused Speaker Amason Kingi of disregarding court orders. She maintained that until courts decide otherwise, she remains the rightful nominated senator, describing her exclusion as political persecution and an affront to the rule of law.
