(In Kenya) Busia Lawyers Boycott Courts, Give Chief Justice Martha Koome 21-Day Ultimatum Over Magistrate’s Safety

Lawyers in Busia, Kenya, have issued a 21-day ultimatum to Chief Justice Martha Koome to transfer Chief Magistrate Edna Nyaloti, who reported threats to her life amid concerns over court corruption. The Busia branch of the Law Society of Kenya has boycotted court proceedings, citing unsafe working conditions and demanding prioritized security for the magistrate.

Nyaloti raised alarms about brokers infiltrating Busia courts, commercializing bonds, and intimidating judicial staff. The lawyers warn that failure to act by the deadline will lead to an expanded boycott across all county courts, including Malaba and Port Victoria.
