(In Ghana) Nana Agradaa’s Amnesty Status Sparks Debate as Mahama Grants Clemency to 998 Prisoners

Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, widely known as Nana Agradaa, has become a focal point of public discussion in Ghana following the Mahama administration’s announcement of a presidential amnesty for 998 prisoners. The former fetish priestess turned leader of Heaven Way Church, who was convicted in July 2025, has prompted widespread speculation on social media and beyond about whether her name is among those granted clemency.

In July 2025, an Accra Circuit Court sentenced Nana Agradaa to 15 years in prison with hard labor for charges of charlatanic advertisement, specifically her “Sika Gari” money-doubling scheme, and defrauding by false pretenses. The high-profile case stemmed from a 2022 broadcast where she promised financial miracles, leading to significant financial losses for many victims. As news of the amnesty spread, conversations have intensified, with some questioning whether Agradaa, given her recent conviction and short time served, qualifies for release under the humanitarian-focused initiative aimed at reducing prison overcrowding.

The lack of disclosed names in the amnesty list has fueled debates, with opinions divided on whether Agradaa’s inclusion would align with the program’s criteria, which prioritize vulnerable groups like the elderly, seriously ill, and first-time offenders. Her case continues to captivate public attention, reflecting broader discussions about justice, mercy, and the legacy of her controversial ministry.
