Paris Saint-Germain won the UEFA Super Cup after coming from two goals down to beat Tottenham Hotspur on penalties. Spurs began strongly, unsettling the Champions League winners with long balls to Richarlison. Micky van de Ven gave them the lead in the 38th minute, reacting quickly after Cristian Romero’s header was saved. Just after half-time, Romero struck again, this time heading in from a Pedro Porro free-kick to make it 2–0.
Despite enjoying more than 70 percent possession, PSG had struggled to break through a disciplined Tottenham defence. Vitinha and Achraf Hakimi saw plenty of the ball, but clear chances were rare. Spurs looked in control heading into the closing stages, with Thomas Frank’s side on the verge of a famous victory. However, substitutions made by PSG boss Luis Enrique shifted the momentum. Tottenham were pushed deeper as the French champions increased their pressure.

The turning point came in the 84th minute when substitute Lee Kang-in scored a brilliant strike from outside the box. Spurs were suddenly holding on desperately, and with just minutes left, Hakimi crossed for Gonçalo Ramos to head home, forcing the match into a penalty shootout.
The penalty shootout began with an unexpected twist as PSG’s Vitinha missed his opening attempt despite sending goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario the wrong way. Tottenham had the advantage but failed to capitalise. Micky van de Ven, one of the match’s earlier heroes, was unable to convert his penalty. Mathys Tel then missed as well, leaving PSG with the chance to win the trophy. Nuno Mendes stepped up and calmly slotted home the decisive spot-kick, sparking celebrations for the Parisian side.
For Tottenham, the loss was a bitter blow after leading for most of the match. However, there were positives to take. Mohammed Kudus impressed with his creativity, producing the most chances for Spurs, while Romero dominated in the air and scored a key goal. The team’s tactical discipline frustrated PSG for long periods, and their direct style caused problems for the French champions.

For PSG, the victory adds another European honour to their collection and showcases their depth, with substitutes making the difference in the closing stages. Tottenham will feel they let the win slip away, but they proved they can compete with the very best. Both teams now turn their attention back to domestic competitions.
