Rescue teams later located the wreckage and retrieved the bodies of all eight individuals. Their remains have since been flown to Accra on a military aircraft.
The crash, which occurred on Wednesday, August 6, has sparked an outpouring of grief nationwide. Dr. Omane Boamah, who is now the focus of public mourning, had served as Minister of Defence since February 2025. He was 50 years old at the time of his death.
A respected figure in Ghanaian politics, Boamah previously served as Minister for Communications and as Spokesperson to the President. He was a prominent member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and widely admired for his contributions to public service.
Tributes continue to pour in online, with many Ghanaians expressing shock and sorrow at the sudden loss of lives, especially of a leader who played a vital role in the country’s security and governance.
