Cocoa is making headlines in Ghana following the government’s announcement of a substantial price increase for the 2025/2026 cocoa season.
Starting August 7, cocoa prices are expected to rise from US$3,100 to US$5,040 per tonne representing a 62.58% increase in dollar terms.
Defending the significant price jump, COCOBOD CEO Dr. Randy Abbey disclosed that the board had previously withheld information about selling 333,766 tonnes of cocoa at just $2,600 per tonne. He admitted this impacted pricing decisions for the 2024/2025 season, leading to lower-than-expected returns.

The new pricing aims to better reflect current market conditions and ensure fairer compensation for Ghanaian cocoa farmers.
