Brother of Oasis’ Liam and Noel Gallagher faces UK court on rape and assault charges

Paul Gallagher, the older brother of Oasis musicians Liam and Noel Gallagher, has appeared in a London court charged with multiple serious offences, including rape. The 59-year-old was brought before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday following police confirmation last month that he faces 11 charges. These include three counts of sexual assault, three counts of intentional strangulation, two counts of making threats to kill, one count of rape, one count of assault, and coercive and controlling behaviour. The charges all relate to one complainant.

His lawyer told the court that Gallagher intends to plead not guilty to all allegations. His legal team, Carson Kaye Solicitors, previously released a statement stressing that Gallagher had cooperated fully with the police investigation and strongly denied any wrongdoing. The statement added that he looks forward to “clearing his name,” though he will not comment further while legal proceedings are ongoing. The case is now set to proceed through the UK courts, where the allegations will be tested in full. Gallagher has no role in Oasis, the Manchester band which rose to global fame in the 1990s. The proceedings come just weeks after Oasis reunited for a long-anticipated tour, more than a decade after their split.

Paul Gallagher is best known as the older sibling of Liam and Noel Gallagher, whose band Oasis became one of Britain’s most successful rock groups during the 1990s Britpop era. While Liam and Noel’s turbulent relationship eventually caused the band to split in 2009, they surprised fans by reuniting for a new tour last month. Paul Gallagher, however, has never been involved with Oasis and has lived largely outside the public spotlight until now.

The charges against him add to the high-profile nature of the case, drawing attention from both media and fans of the band. Police confirmed that the allegations against Gallagher cover a series of alleged incidents involving a single complainant. His defence team insists the claims are unfounded, with his lawyers emphasising his cooperation with investigators throughout the process. The court hearing on Wednesday was procedural, with Gallagher’s lawyer making clear his intention to contest every charge. The next steps in the case will involve further hearings and the setting of a trial date, where evidence will be presented. Given the severity of the accusations ranging from rape to threats to kill the trial is expected to draw significant attention once it begins.
