Newcastle United are still in the race to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, despite reports from Slovenia that he has already rejected Manchester United. The Magpies have reportedly presented a compelling financial offer and long-term project to Sesko in an effort to convince him to join their squad this summer. This push comes as Newcastle are actively seeking a new centre-forward, with Alexander Isak strongly linked with a move to Liverpool. After missing out on other targets like Hugo Ekitike and Joao Pedro, Sesko has emerged as their top choice. On the other hand, Manchester United also remain interested in Sesko, hoping to strengthen their attack after underwhelming performances from current options like Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee. While United were seen as favourites, reports now suggest Newcastle’s pitch might be winning the striker over. Arsenal were also in the race, but they opted to pursue Viktor Gyokeres instead due to Leipzig’s high demands.
Benjamin Sesko’s transfer saga is expected to drag on as both Newcastle and Manchester United continue their pursuit. With just weeks left in the summer transfer window, the Slovenian striker’s future remains uncertain. While Newcastle have reportedly offered the most attractive deal so far, some sources still insist that Sesko prefers a move to Old Trafford. Eddie Howe, when asked about the situation, declined to comment on any individual targets, stating his focus remains on training and pre-season preparations. Meanwhile, the uncertainty around Isak’s future has only increased Newcastle’s urgency to secure a new number nine. Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins has also been linked with both clubs as a backup option. While not as young or high-profile as Sesko, Watkins could offer a proven Premier League alternative if either club fails to seal the deal. Ultimately, Sesko’s decision could shape the attacking direction of both Newcastle and Manchester United this season.
