Arsenal’s Saka Ruled Out for 3–4 Weeks, Will Miss Liverpool Clash

Arsenal have suffered a major setback ahead of their visit to Anfield this weekend, with Bukayo Saka confirmed to be sidelined for three to four weeks. The England international limped off with a hamstring injury during Arsenal’s 5–0 win over Leeds on Saturday, sparking immediate fears he could face an extended absence.

Medical assessments have since eased the worst concerns, but the timeframe for recovery means Saka will miss the crucial Premier League clash against Liverpool on Sunday. He will also be unavailable for England’s World Cup qualification double-header against Albania and Serbia next month. Arsenal hope to have him back for their league match against Nottingham Forest on September 13, though his recovery progress will determine whether he is fit in time.

The winger’s absence comes as a significant blow to manager Mikel Arteta, with Saka having played a central role in Arsenal’s strong start to the season. His goals, assists, and creativity from the right flank have been crucial to Arsenal’s attacking balance. Losing him for a tough trip to Anfield makes the task more challenging as the Gunners attempt to maintain momentum at the top of the Premier League.

There was at least some more positive news for Arsenal supporters regarding captain Martin Ødegaard. The Norwegian midfielder sustained a shoulder injury in the same match against Leeds, but early updates suggest he has not yet been ruled out of contention for the Liverpool fixture. He remains in a race against time to prove his fitness, with club staff closely monitoring his progress before Sunday’s game.

Arsenal’s medical team are expected to make a late call on Ødegaard, but the chance of him being available at Anfield has offered hope that the Gunners will not be without both of their creative stars. Ødegaard has been instrumental in linking midfield with attack, and his presence would help alleviate the blow of losing Saka.

The situation will also test the depth of Arsenal’s squad, as Arteta may turn to options such as Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli, or Emile Smith Rowe to fill the void on the right wing. The coming weeks could also provide valuable opportunities for younger players.

For England, the absence of Saka is a disappointment, as Gareth Southgate prepares for important qualifiers. The Three Lions will now need to adjust their plans without one of their most consistent attacking threats.
