Trump Diagnosed with Vein Condition After Speculation Over Bruising

The White House has confirmed that President Donald Trump, 79, has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a vein condition common in older adults. The announcement follows recent public speculation after photographs revealed bruising on the president's hand and swelling in his legs. According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, Trump underwent vascular testing after experiencing leg swelling. The results showed no signs of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease, and all test results were described as within normal limits. Chronic venous insufficiency occurs when veins in the legs struggle to pump blood back to the heart, leading to blood pooling in the lower limbs and causing swelling. Doctors say the condition is benign and not considered serious, especially in older individuals. Dr Sean Barbabella, the White House physician, emphasized that Trump remains in excellent health with no signs of heart failure, kidney issues, or systemic illness. While the vein condition explains the leg swelling, the bruises on Trump’s hand were attributed to a different cause. The White House said the bruising resulted from frequent handshakes combined with Trump’s use of aspirin, a common blood-thinning medication. Aspirin can increase the likelihood of bruising, particularly in older individuals. Medical experts who reviewed the details agreed with this explanation, noting that bruising from aspirin is not unusual in elderly patients. The condition has led to increased attention due to Trump's status as the oldest president ever inaugurated in the United States. Photos taken at recent public events, including a football match and diplomatic meetings, revealed visible swelling and discoloration, prompting rumors. However, doctors emphasized that chronic venous insufficiency is common and manageable with compression garments, leg elevation, and general health management. Trump’s doctors maintain that he is physically and cognitively fit.
