Christian Horner has been dismissed from his role as team principal of Red Bull Racing, ending a 20-year tenure that began when the team first entered Formula 1 in 2005. Red Bull GmbH, the team’s parent company, made the announcement on Wednesday, stating that Horner was "released from his operational duties with effect from today."

During his two decades in charge, Horner played a central role in turning Red Bull into one of Formula 1’s most successful teams. Under his leadership, the team won multiple Constructors’ and Drivers’ Championships, including titles with Sebastian Vettel and more recently Max Verstappen. His departure marks a major shake-up for the team that has dominated the sport in recent seasons.

Horner's sacking comes 17 months after he was accused by a female colleague of inappropriate behaviour. Despite the seriousness of the allegations, Red Bull GmbH conducted internal investigations on two occasions and cleared Horner of any wrongdoing. However, no additional reason has been made public for his removal at this time.

Following Horner's departure, Red Bull GmbH has appointed Laurent Mekies as the new CEO of Red Bull Racing. Mekies, who previously held senior roles at Ferrari and FIA, is expected to oversee the next phase of the team's operations and development both on and off the track.

This leadership transition is expected to have a major impact on the team’s strategy and morale. Horner was known for his hands-on approach and close relationship with drivers, engineers, and sponsors. His departure may raise questions about continuity and the team’s ability to maintain its competitive edge in the current F1 season.

The timing of the decision is notable, coming mid-season while Red Bull continues to fight for titles. There has been no official confirmation on whether internal disagreements, performance issues, or renewed scrutiny surrounding the past allegations influenced the move.

Christian Horner has yet to make a public statement regarding his dismissal. As speculation grows about his next steps and the reasons behind Red Bull’s decision, the motorsport world will be watching closely. What’s clear is that one of Formula 1’s most successful and recognizable figures has exited the stage

and a new era at Red Bull Racing has officially begun.
