Moises Caicedo gave Blues fans a scare after twisting his ankle just days before the Club World Cup final.

Chelsea have been dealt a potential blow just days before the Club World Cup final as star midfielder Moises Caicedo twisted his ankle in their semi-final match. The Ecuadorian international picked up the knock while challenging for the ball in what looked like a painful incident. Although Caicedo managed to play through the remainder of the match, doubts now linger over his fitness heading into Sunday’s all-important final against either Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca addressed concerns after the game, stating that while Caicedo remained on the pitch, it’s still uncertain whether he will recover in time. “I told Caicedo he has to do everything to be on the pitch on Sunday. We will see,” said the manager. His words reflect both hope and caution, as the team faces the prospect of missing one of their most influential players in the midfield.

Fortunately for Chelsea, they still have depth in the middle of the park. Both Andrey Santos and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall were brought off the bench during the match, and they may need to step up should Caicedo be ruled out. While the injury is not confirmed to be serious, the timing makes it particularly worrying for the Blues’ title hopes.

Despite the injury concerns, Chelsea had plenty of positives to take from their performance in the semi-final of the FIFA Club World Cup. Joao Pedro stole the spotlight with two fantastic goals  one in each half  during his first start for the club. The 22-year-old forward proved his value in style and may have earned himself a starting role in Sunday’s final.

The match, held at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey under sweltering heat, saw the Blues handle the pressure well. The players walked out to a rousing introduction by legendary announcer Michael Buffer, adding to the high-stakes atmosphere. Chelsea faced some tense moments  including a penalty scare and a shot that had to be cleared off the line  but ultimately held strong throughout the game.

With this win, Chelsea booked their spot in the final where they’ll face European giants Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid. The defensive unit held firm, while attacking playmakers kept the opposition on the back foot. The victory showcased Chelsea’s growing confidence under Enzo Maresca and highlighted the squad’s potential depth even if key players like Caicedo are sidelined.

Fans now eagerly await Sunday’s final and updates on Caicedo’s recovery.
