Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi has officially joined Arsenal in a £60 million move from Real Sociedad, turning down interest from Real Madrid. Despite strong links to Los Blancos, Zubimendi made it clear that Arsenal was the right fit for him from the start. In his own words, once Arsenal convinced him of their project, his decision was final. The 25-year-old said he wanted to leave Real Sociedad only for the right coach and found that in Mikel Arteta. Zubimendi praised Arteta's attention to detail and obsession with tactics, describing him as one of Europe’s top coaches. He added that from the moment he arrived at Arsenal, he felt the size and ambition of the club, which helped him quickly adapt to life in London. Speaking at the unveiling of Arsenal’s new away kit with adidas, Zubimendi emphasized his respect for Real Sociedad but said he had long wanted this kind of challenge. His arrival marks a significant boost for Arsenal’s midfield and shows the club's pull under Arteta.

Zubimendi is part of Arsenal’s midfield overhaul ahead of the 2025-26 season. With Thomas Partey and Jorginho departing, the Spaniard will form a new central unit alongside Declan Rice, captain Martin Odegaard, and fellow signing Christian Norgaard. The club hopes this refreshed midfield can help break their long-standing trophy drought. The team is currently in Singapore preparing for the upcoming season. Arsenal’s pre-season schedule includes friendlies against AC Milan and Newcastle United before a final tune-up game against rivals Tottenham Hotspur. With his ability to control tempo and his calmness under pressure, Zubimendi is expected to play a vital role in Arsenal's push for silverware. His quick adaptation and strong mindset could be key as the Gunners aim to challenge Manchester City again in the Premier League and go further in Europe.
