Man Utd agree £65m deal to sign Brentford's Mbeumo

Manchester United have reached a £65 million agreement to sign Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, making him the third major signing of their summer transfer window. The deal could eventually rise to £70 million with performance-related add-ons. The Cameroon international is expected to complete his medicals before joining United's squad for their pre-season tour of the United States next week.

The 25-year-old winger joined Brentford in 2019 from French side Lorient and has grown into one of the club's standout performers. This transfer marks the biggest sale in Brentford's history. United initially made an offer of £55 million in early June, followed by a second proposal of £62.5 million later that month. Both offers were rejected. However, Brentford have now accepted United’s third and final offer.

Mbeumo becomes the third addition to new manager Ruben Amorim's squad, following the arrivals of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha and left-back Diego Leon. Amorim is overseeing a significant rebuild at Old Trafford, and Mbeumo is seen as a key part of that project.

The winger's move is expected to bring more pace, direct attacking runs, and finishing power to the team. His signing signals United’s clear intent to compete more aggressively in the upcoming season both domestically and in Europe.

Medical checks will be completed shortly, and if all goes well, Mbeumo will be part of the squad flying to the United States, where United will face top teams in preparation for the new campaign.

Bryan Mbeumo arrives at Manchester United following a breakthrough Premier League season in which he delivered personal bests across multiple attacking metrics. The 25-year-old registered career highs in goals scored, assists, chances created, and touches inside the opposition box.

His clinical finishing has also drawn attention. With a shot conversion rate of 23.53 percent, he ranked behind only Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak among the most efficient attackers in England's top flight. United’s coaching staff believe his sharp eye for goal and smart positioning in the box will add a new dimension to their attack.

However, Mbeumo’s value goes beyond scoring goals. He ranked third in the Premier League for ball recoveries in the final third, showing his high work rate and ability to press effectively. This aligns well with Ruben Amorim’s tactical philosophy, which places emphasis on defending from the front and high-energy transitions.

One of Mbeumo’s most unique strengths is his progressive ball carrying. In the 2024-25 season, he led the Premier League in goal-creating carries over five metres. He recorded nine such instances, with his direct running repeatedly breaking opposition lines and ending in goals.

These stats underline why Manchester United were willing to go as high as £70 million for his services. His ability to combine pressing, creativity, and goal scoring makes him a complete modern forward.

With this signing, United are not just getting a winger; they are securing a player entering his prime years, capable of making a decisive impact in the biggest matches. The club believes Mbeumo will thrive on the bigger stage and help return United to their competitive best.

Fans will be eager to see how he fits into the system during the upcoming pre-season tour.
