ENGLAND & GERMANY

England:

Defending champions England have had a rocky road to the semi-finals. Despite a 2-1 loss to France in their opening match, they bounced back with dominant wins over the Netherlands (4-0) and Wales (6-1), before edging past Sweden on penalties in the quarter-final after coming back from 2-0 down. England have scored 13 goals and conceded five, with key performances from Lauren James, goalkeeper Hannah Hampton, and veteran Lucy Bronze. James, in particular, has been hailed as a future global star. England have a 36.5% chance of retaining their title according to Opta.

Germany:

Germany, eight-time European champions, have had a mixed campaign. After winning their group opener against Poland and narrowly beating Denmark, they were heavily defeated by Sweden 4-1. In the quarter-final against France, they played almost the entire match with 10 players after an early red card, yet managed to win on penalties thanks to goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger’s heroics. Jule Brand has also stood out with two goals and two assists. Despite shaky form and disciplinary issues, their resilience keeps them in contention with a 23.5% chance of lifting the trophy.

Italy:

Ranked 13th in the world, Italy have exceeded expectations at Euro 2025. After progressing behind Spain in the group stage, they stunned two-time champions Norway with a dramatic 2-1 quarter-final win. Veteran striker Cristiana Girelli scored both goals, including a last-minute winner. Italy have scored and conceded five goals in the tournament. Known for their wide play and possession control, they are now in their first European semi-final since 1997. With only an 8.9% chance of winning, they remain the underdogs but are not to be overlooked.

Spain:

Spain have been in dominant form, aiming to add the Euro title to their 2023 World Cup win. They cruised through the group stage with big wins over Portugal, Belgium, and Italy before a steady 2-0 quarter-final win over hosts Switzerland. With 16 goals scored and only four conceded, Spain are a powerhouse. Key performers include Esther Gonzalez, Aitana Bonmati, and Alexia Putellas, who has returned from injury in top form with seven goal involvements. With a 31.1% win probability, Spain are strong contenders for the crown.
