Kenya's War on Corruption Gains Momentum: Conflict of Interest Law Signed.

Kenya's President William Ruto has signed the Conflict of Interest Bill, 2023, into law, marking a significant step towards strengthening public ethics and accountability in the country. This new legislation repeals the outdated Public Officer Ethics Act.

The new legislation mandates asset disclosures by public officers, including their families, and bars them from doing business with government entities.

It grants EACC stronger powers to investigate and punish breaches, aiming to rebuild trust in public service.

The law had faced opposition in Parliament, prompting the President to return it for amendments.

His firm stance ensured restoration of key anti-corruption clauses, including bans on officials transacting with state agencies.

Parliament adopted the revised version in June 2025, helping secure a KSh97 billion World Bank funding package.

The move is seen as a major policy win in the fight against entrenched conflicts of interest in government.
