Bryan Kohberger, a 30-year-old former PhD student in criminal justice at Washington State University, is expected to plead guilty to the brutal murders of four University of Idaho students. The killings took place in the early hours of November 13, 2022, inside an off-campus house in the small town of Moscow, Idaho. The victims were Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin all undergraduate students. Each was stabbed multiple times in what authorities described as a violent and targeted attack.
On the night of the murders, Kernodle and Chapin had attended a party, while Mogen and Goncalves visited a bar and a food truck. All four returned home by 2 a.m. Two other female roommates were in the house but were unharmed. One of the survivors told police she heard crying and saw a masked man dressed in black walking past her.
Investigators later tied Kohberger to the crime scene using a mix of cellphone data, surveillance video, and DNA evidence found on a knife sheath. Kohberger was arrested in Pennsylvania while visiting family and extradited to Idaho. Prosecutors have never publicly revealed a motive, but they insist the evidence overwhelmingly links him to the slayings.
