Around 100 NFL players and approximately two dozen team employees are facing disciplinary action for reselling Super Bowl tickets at prices higher than their original value. According to a report first revealed by ESPN and confirmed by Reuters, these individuals violated the NFL’s long-standing policy which prohibits league and team employees, including players, from selling game tickets obtained from their employers for more than face value or more than they paid.
Players are typically allowed to purchase two Super Bowl tickets at face value. In this year’s championship game held at the Superdome in New Orleans, where the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, the highest face-value tickets were priced around $7,500. However, on resale platforms, those same tickets were sold for as much as $56,770.

Under the penalty rules, players will be fined 1.5 times the face value of the ticket they sold, while club employees will be fined twice the amount. The individuals involved have not been publicly named, nor have their respective teams.
A memo reviewed by Reuters from the NFL’s compliance department revealed more details about how the ticket reselling scheme unfolded. The investigation found that both players and club employees sold their tickets to a small group of “bundlers.” These bundlers worked with professional ticket resellers to flip the Super Bowl tickets on the secondary market for significant profit.
Those who were involved in organizing the bundling or played a more active role in the resale process will face even steeper penalties. The NFL has concluded most of the investigation and is preparing to issue the appropriate fines.
In response to the incident, the league will implement stronger compliance training ahead of the next Super Bowl, which will be held in 2026 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Super Bowl tickets remain one of the most sought-after items in American sports, and the league is keen to protect the integrity of its ticketing policies to ensure fairness and avoid further scandals.
