(In UK) Nigel Farage Vows to Build Five Nightingale Prisons on Military Land with Army Support if Elected Prime Minister

Nightingale prisons are making headlines in the United Kingdom after Nigel Farage announced an ambitious proposal to build five such facilities if he becomes Prime Minister. The Reform UK leader says the modular prisons would be constructed on military land with the help of the army and are designed to house more than 12,000 inmates.

The plan is part of Reform UK’s wider crackdown on crime, which also includes hiring 30,000 additional police officers and deporting over 10,000 foreign offenders to prisons abroad. Farage’s use of the term “Nightingale” a nod to the emergency hospitals set up during the COVID-19 pandemic  underscores the urgency he attaches to solving the UK’s growing prison overcrowding crisis.
