(In the UK) John Torode Speaks Out: MasterChef Star Slams Handling of Racism Allegations

Celebrity chef John Torrodeo, better known as John Torode, has spoken out about his departure from MasterChef, stating he was not directly informed about the reason for his exit. Torode's exit followed an investigation into allegations of him using a serious racist term, which was reportedly upheld.

The BBC and production company Banijay UK confirmed his contract would not be renewed.

Torode said he learned about the decision through media reports, expressed disappointment, and insisted he has no recollection of saying anything offensive during his time on the show.

The BBC’s director-general, Tim Davie, described the language attributed to Torode as a “serious racist term” and stressed the importance of upholding the broadcaster’s values.

Banijay UK stated the allegation dated back to 2018 and had been substantiated by an independent law firm.

Torode, who joined MasterChef in 2005, acknowledged it was time to step aside, thanking fans while preparing to focus on other projects and personal endeavours.
