(In Uganda) President Museveni Launches CHAN 2024 Uganda Chapter, Highlighting Football and Youth Engagement

 

On July 25, 2025, Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Uganda became the focal point of national pride as President Yoweri Museveni officially launched the Uganda Chapter of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). The vibrant event, held in Kampala, drew student representatives, government officials, and sports stakeholders, marking a significant step in Uganda’s preparations to co-host the tournament with Kenya and Tanzania. 


The launch emphasized Uganda’s commitment to sports development, fostering regional unity, and showcasing homegrown football talent on a continental stage, amplifying the country’s role in African sports.The CHAN tournament, set for August 2–30, 2025, is distinctive for featuring only players active in their domestic leagues, providing a platform for local talent to shine. Uganda will host Group C matches and the third-place playoff, while Kenya and Tanzania manage other key fixtures.


The inclusion of students at the launch reflects a deliberate effort to engage youth in national events and promote sport-driven diplomacy, inspiring the next generation of Ugandans. The ceremony, filled with patriotic fervor, highlighted the significance of football in uniting communities and elevating Uganda’s global sports profile. Social media posts on X captured the excitement, with fans celebrating the event as a “proud moment for Ugandan football,” setting high expectations for the nation’s performance in the tournament.
