Joseph Kabuleta has ignited fervor in Uganda with the launch of his new political party, the National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED), aimed at dismantling President Yoweri Museveni’s long-standing rule and championing economic justice.
At a vibrant event in Kampala on July 23, 2025, Kabuleta unveiled the maize cob as NEED’s symbol, representing agricultural growth and productivity. He sharply criticized the bloated public sector, unfair taxation policies, and the deepening rural impoverishment, asserting that Uganda’s wealth must translate into tangible financial dignity for all citizens, not just the elite.Kabuleta vehemently opposed what he described as the “Museveni dynasty,” explicitly rejecting any succession by the president’s son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
He emphasized NEED’s nationwide presence, with delegates from every region of Uganda, underscoring the party’s commitment to inclusivity and grassroots engagement. Kabuleta outlined a vision to decentralize power, bolster local farmers, and reduce reliance on imported goods like rice and garlic, promoting self-sufficiency and economic empowerment.
The launch, marked by enthusiastic support from attendees, positioned NEED as a bold new force in Uganda’s political landscape, with a slogan of “Money in Your Pocket.” As Kabuleta prepares for his second presidential run in 2026, his focus on economic liberation and political transformation resonates with Ugandans seeking change after decades of Museveni’s rule.
