The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Olalere Owolabi Olakulehin, has passed away at 90, prompting widespread mourning across Nigeria. His death on July 7, 2025, just two days after his birthday and days before his first coronation anniversary, marks the end of a brief but impactful reign as the 43rd Olubadan.

Born in 1935 in Okugbaja village, Oba Olakulehin had a distinguished career, serving in the military and as a House of Representatives member before ascending the throne in July 2024. His one-year reign was noted for its calm and unifying leadership, fostering peace and cultural pride in Ibadanland.

As Ibadan mourns, Oba Olakulehin’s legacy as a dedicated leader and custodian of Yoruba tradition endures, leaving a lasting mark on the historic city.
