Police Launch Probe into Shooting of Anambra PDP Governorship Candidate
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has begun an official investigation into the shooting of Jude Ezenwafor, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 25. According to reports, Ezenwafor was attacked and shot by unidentified gunmen while returning from an engagement in the Wuse 2 area of Abuja.
The shooting has raised serious concerns about political violence ahead of the state election. Ezenwafor is one of the candidates seeking to replace the current governor of Anambra State, and the incident has been described as an attempted assassination.
Following the attack, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, released a statement confirming that the Command is actively investigating the incident. However, the investigation is still in its early stages and has not yet revealed the full details surrounding the shooting or the identity of the attackers.
The police have not provided additional information about Ezenwafor’s current medical condition or whether any arrests have been made so far. The public is urged to remain calm while security officials continue their probe.

In a public appeal, the FCT Police Command has asked individuals who may have any information related to the attack on Jude Ezenwafor to come forward. The spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, emphasized that the cooperation of citizens is vital in helping the police reach a conclusive finding.
The Command urged witnesses or anyone with helpful details to visit the nearest police station and share what they know. This move is part of efforts to ensure transparency and justice in addressing the attempted assassination of the governorship hopeful.
So far, no suspect has been named, and motives behind the attack remain unclear. Political observers believe the shooting could be linked to pre-election tensions, a concern that has become increasingly common in Nigerian politics.
The police have assured the public that they are treating the case with urgency and that all leads are being followed. The incident has not only raised alarms within the PDP but also across other political platforms that see the act as a threat to Nigeria’s democratic process.
Meanwhile, the PDP leadership is closely monitoring the investigation and is expected to issue an official statement. Calls are growing for tighter security measures around political candidates as the election date draws nearer.
This incident adds to the growing need for election-related violence to be addressed before campaigns peak across Anambra State. The police continue to ask the public to remain vigilant and support efforts to maintain peace and safety during the election season.
