(In Nigeria) Okonkwo Condemns Edo Governor’s Alleged Threat to Obi, Calls Remarks Ethnic Provocation

Nollywood actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo is making headlines in Nigeria after publicly condemning Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo over alleged comments targeting Peter Obi's visit to the state.

Okonkwo described the governor's reported remarks as “tribalistic” and a direct affront to the Igbo people. He accused Okpebholo of harboring ethnic hatred and warned that such rhetoric could incite division.

The outspoken Labour Party chieftain called on Obi to respond decisively, warning that if the governor does not issue a public apology, he will personally escalate the matter.

Okonkwo also recalled a previous incident involving the Benue State governor, where Obi, according to him, failed to react strongly to similar ethnic provocation. He urged the former presidential candidate to stop tolerating political intimidation and ethnic disrespect, especially when aimed at Southeastern leaders.

He concluded by rejecting any narrative that paints Obi as a security threat, calling it not just disrespectful but a calculated move to marginalize the Southeast.
